More about this expert:
I have worked on a wide variety of environmental issues in both advanced and emerging economies for 40 years. As part of the senior management of OECD’s Environment Directorate for 20 years, I have worked at the interface of economic and environmental policies; promoting both the integration of environmental and green growth considerations into economic policies, and identifying ways of making environmental policies more efficient and effective. Before retiring from the OECD at the end of 2014, I led the preparation of 20 in-depth reviews of countries’ environmental policies. These included reviews of advanced OECD countries such as Germany and Sweden, as well as emerging economies such as China, Brazil and South Africa. Other recent areas of work include: green growth indicators, environmentally related taxes, water management, greening trade, investment and aid flows, and promoting more effective enforcement and compliance of environmental policies. A key skill required in all this work has been the ability to work on technically complex issues and to develop and communicate results in a clear, policy-relevant manner. I have considerable experience of working with Environment, Finance and other ministers, as well as with senior representatives from business, trade unions and NGOs.
