More about this expert:
As the head of Environmental and Urban Design, I manage research and outputs of projects on heritage, conservation and sustainability. To ensure the success of the projects, I make sure our researchers work closely with relevant stakeholders, e.g. heritage NGOs, disabled persons’ organizations and government agencies. Our researchers consist of both lecturers and students. A project in the pipeline will involve Master's of Architecture students in ‘countering gentrification: designing for community’. I am also the founder of ZaSve, a social enterprise focusing on universal design products and services. We aim to provide solutions for accessibility, universal design, public transportation, built environment, where much of the work is done in the context of developing countries. At present, we operate under Universiti Malaya's Commercialization and Innovation Centre. I have vast experience in access audit training and universal design. I am a resource person for United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). I have been chosen as the lead trainer for the Nippon Foundation funded Secretariat for the ASEAN universities network on disability public policy (2016-2019). I received my architectural education and training in Malaysia and the UK. In 2009 I completed a doctoral thesis titled 'Accessibility to historic public buildings: development processes in England and Wales' (University of Salford). I have been on the faculty of architecture at Universiti Malaya since 1997.
